My Hobby - English Essay

          A hobby is an activity that a person performs in his spare time. There is no compulsion about a hobby. It arises purely from personal taste. Hobbies bring a feeling of joy and satisfaction to a man. They enhance creativity and develop our skills, refresh our minds. There is a source of recreation for retired people as well. When a man has nothing to do, all sorts of evil ideas come to his mind. He naturally becomes lazy because of his idleness.

          Hobbies add zest to a dull and boring life. They indicate the versatility of the individual. They also provide us information and help us to solve many problems.

         If I were to pick one favorite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick “book reading”. My hands automatically move towards books whenever I’m free because it’s a taste of my life. Books provide us information, relaxation and help us in passing our spare time joyfully.

        I have had this hobby since my childhood when I was quite young. I was very fond of reading comic books. But now I read almost all kinds of books. My choice of reading books ranges from novels, poetry, and history to Islamic books. Poetic books have their own entertainment value. Both English and Urdu novels, essays, and stories contribute to my vocabulary and style. Historical books provide us the information about the rise and fall of different nations.

                    The benefits of my hobby are unlimited. Reading has saved me from bad company. It has given me a clear advantage over my fellow students. Books have provided me a great vocabulary to speak and write and a complete understanding of current issues. Besides, I also read newspapers and magazines.

         All hobbies make life charming and add to our happiness. They bring us new friends and make us social. One can enjoy success, leisure, happiness, and great respect by having a good habit for one’s spare time.
