My Last Day at College - English Essay
In the storehouse of my
memories, my last day at college occupies a prominent position. I can never
forget that day when I left college and entered my professional life. My college
was a place where I spent the golden years of my life. Those happy days, noisy laughter, and careless wandering still haunt my memory. It is a universal law that:
“For every start, there is an end”
At last, the time came when I had to say
adieu to my remarkable and wonderful college life. I remember it was the last
week of April when we were told that we were being given a farewell party. The
next day at noon, I wore my best dress and set out for the college.
As I reached the
college, the front lawn was decorated with colorful buntings and banners,
saying farewell to the outgoing classes. The students in colorful costumes were
rounding up, cutting jokes, and sending laughter in the air. A large seating
arrangement was made for the students.
“Life in a college is more fun than a serious effort
to get an education.”
Then the function started with the
recitation of the Holy Quran and a Naat. After it, some students staged a variety
show – which included comic skits and music performances. They showed that
education doesn’t mean cramming books only. It includes one’s talent and
enables one to be a useful citizen.
Then the principal started his speech. He
was addressing a big audience. Some naughty ones were whispering and passing
funny remarks over the speech. The principal conveyed best wishes and prayed for
our outstanding success. He said:
“If you spoil yourself, you spoil the future of the country.”
After it, lunch was served.
Some of us pounced upon the dishes. The farewell function was in full swing.
A new announcement was made for
the career guidance. The objective was to familiarize students with the next
possible options of learning and to find a path for the future. I can say that it
was a great blessing for us. The speech had come to an end but a new phase of
my life had started with a difference.
“His speech flowed from his tongue sweeter than honey.”
In the end, autographs were exchanged and
the snaps were taken. Then I bade farewell to my friends and returned home with
a heavy heart but the eyes brightened with the soaring ambitions of the future
and left behind unforgettable memories.
“We must have old memories and young hopes.”
