My First Day at College - English Essay

College is like a fountain of knowledge and the students are there to drink.

    (Chuck Palahniuk)

The change over from high school to college is not as simple as it appears to be for an outsider. It’s really a great change in the life of a young man. College life offers a completely new world of freedom and advancement to a student. It gives an opportunity to train a student for a career, a chance to socialize with fellow students and become a responsible citizen.

“College is the reward for surviving the high school”

       (Judd Apatow)

Somedays and events leave lasting memories behind them. My first day at college is one of the beautiful days of my life. It’s an important day in every student’s life. I still remember that day as if it were only yesterday.

On that day I got up early in the morning, offered prayer, had some breakfast, and set out for the college. When I stepped in, I came across a new world. The worthy teachers were welcoming the newcomers and guided them to the assembly hall. Only the first-year students were invited and senior ones were given a holiday.

The hall was decorated with the pictures of young Quaid-e-Azam, previous principals, and some shining stars of the college. At 9 o’clock the principal entered the hall and the professors also took their respective seats.

The principal was old but a healthy man. His face showed a strong determination. His strong voice echoed “Assalam-o-Alaikum” in the hall. The welcome address had begun. Then he started his speech with this quote:

“An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.”

                                                                 (Benjamin Franklin)

He was very inspiring and motivating. He told us that college provides an opportunity to deal with future tasks. College is the place where you will get to know yourself and your potential. It is where you will decide where your future resides. The principal reformed my concept of pleasure. He explained that college means greater discipline and a sense of responsibility.

The principal’s speech had come to an end but a new phase of my life had started with a difference. In just a few moments, I was transformed into a responsible person.
The rest of my day was full of excitement and finally, my first day at college come to an end and left behind unforgettable memories.

“A college is a lighthouse which emits radiations of knowledge and wisdom”
