A cricket Match - English Essay

Nobody can deny the importance of sports and games in life. They play a vital role in teaching us endurance and tolerance. Cricket is a gentleman’s game. This noble game is full of excitement, thrill, discipline, team spirit, cooperation, and hard work. It is very popular and enjoyed all over the world and people are amazed to watch these matches.

“Sports do not build character, they reveal it.”

(Heywood Broun)

A cricket match between Pakistan and India is always thrilling and exciting. In 2017, my friends planned to watch the final match of the champions trophy. Two days before the match, we set out for London.

We reached The Oval in time. The stadium was jam-packed with the spectators. Policemen were also there to control the people.

The captains of both teams with umpires came into the ground for a toss. India won the toss and was elected to field first. Virat Kohli thought that it would be easy for them to chase a target. The forecast was slightly cloudy. A fresh pitch appeared as mostly dry.

The match started at the fixed time. The opening batsman of Pakistan gave us a steady start. They both defended and attacked. The Indian bowler made their strong attempts but our batsmen fought back and coordinated remarkably. After 23 overs, the score was 128 for the loss of one wicket. In no time, Fakhar Zaman hit his first 100 in ODI. Then he bowed down for being granted.

If the batsman is in form, then he has to carry that form.

(Sarfaraz Ahmed)

After the loss of four wickets in the 43rd over, Muhammad Hafeez came on the crease and scored an unbeaten 57 off 37 deliveries at the strike rate of 154.05. There was a great cheer and clapping from the crowd. Soon, India was a mess of unusual misfields. By the end of the innings, they had delivered 13 wides and three no-balls. All the batsmen together gave the Indian team a huge target of 338.

Batting is all about getting runs.

After the 1st innings, there was a short break. The players went into the dressing room. Then we enjoyed the delicious eatables. Soon the match resumed.

After Amir's spectacular opening victory, Azhar Ali dropped the catch at first slip. But there was no time to regret it at all. Then on the next ball, Virat Kohli flicked the bowl straight to the point, which was caught. Shadab Khan insisted on an excellent review that found Yuvraj to be out. Then after the rapid 80-run stand between Pandya and Jadeja, Hasan Ali wiped out the tailIndia was all out in the 31st over. Pakistan had won the Champions trophy. This was not an innings, really It was a fantasy.

“Never let a win get to your head or a loss to your heart.”

(Chuck D)

Fakhar Zaman was declared the man of the match. Then Hasan Ali received the Golden Ball, as the leading wicket-taker. Indian players were shocked but they congratulated us. The Pakistan players got their white jackets onWhen our captain lifted the trophy, their supporters gave them a standing ovation. Then Dil Dil Pakistan" rang out across The Oval.

No doubt such days are rare and unforgettable. I still enjoy the memories of that wonderful match. I shall never forget the joys it provided. All in all, it added a beautiful day to my life.

“Cricket lubricates our mind and refreshes the soul.”
